Two Weeks Into Two Clouds: Early Reflections on Starting a Business

It's been just over two weeks since I officially launched Two Clouds, and I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what this opening chapter has looked like.

If you had asked me a month ago what I'd be doing in my first fortnight of running my own business, I probably would have pictured a lot of coding. In reality, very little of my time has been spent writing PHP or tinkering with Laravel. Instead, the majority has gone into writing specifications, drafting proposals, attending meetings, and even heading along to a startup networking event.

That networking event in particular reminded me of something important: trust your gut. It's easy to second-guess every conversation and decision when you're starting out, but I'm realising that listening to instincts-and not being afraid to fail or pivot if something doesn't land-is going to be essential.

The other big feeling I've had over these two weeks is a mixture of excitement and responsibility. On the one hand, it's incredibly freeing to be able to set the direction, decide how things are done, and shape the kind of business I want Two Clouds to become. On the other, there's the realisation that every choice, from the big strategic ones right down to the smallest detail, rests on my shoulders. There's no safety net - just me.

It's a little daunting, but it's also energising. These early days have already made me appreciate that running a business isn't just about the technical work-it's about conversations, clarity, and creating opportunities. I'm sure there will be plenty of lessons (and mistakes) along the way, but for now, I'm enjoying the journey and looking forward to what comes next.
